MY STORY
Following a very fulfilling yet disastrous entrepreneurial start up life in my 20s and then a decade in work (which paid the bills) that I did not find meaningful, I found myself increasingly thinking “why am I doing this?” I had comments from others around me such as “Oh these days you look so distant,” or “You used to have such bright and happy eyes and now all the sparkle is gone.”
It was hard admitting to it, but most of my adult life was spent cruising along into one thing or another. I was not being intentional about living and despite having a “good” life and being somewhat happy, there was a void in me. Sure, I had a steady salary, and the money was decent but most of it I spent on self-soothing and traveling.
Nothing helped fill this void of knowing that I was not being true to myself.
Through a recommendation of a friend, I went for a set of 6 sessions of coaching from an experienced executive coach (though it was more for life coaching). It was not cheap, though worth every dollar because in that coaching space I found myself growing and finding purpose and confidence to do what I needed to do. I realized in my personal life, I had frequently tended toward a supportive, teaching and coaching role toward others, and this brought me the most joy in life.
Seeing people grow and find themselves, leading happy and fulfilling lives really makes my heart sing!
In 2023 (while I was going for coaching), I had a health scare, a large positive number on a lung tumour marker. Thankfully it turned out to be a false positive but, in the time leading up to the retest I did consider the worst.
And thanks to Doctor Google, the worst was a small cell variety which means I would probably be dead in weeks.
It was then I snapped into action and decided that I best get my life in order.
Nearing the end of my coaching sessions, I told my coach that the growth I had experienced in those short hours with her showed me how powerful the coaching space can be. And that she inspired me to train as a coach and help others discover what she had helped me discover. I decided if I was going to go for the stars, I might as well go for a top institution and that was when I signed up for a year study in Coaching Certification at the University of Cambridge.
Despite being very nervous, as most of my course mates are much more senior and very accomplished, having a rigorous academic workload and many live coaching sessions, I found myself finding that joy in life again.
I knew then that this was the road for me and getting testimonials from my early coaching clients about how coaching positively impacted their lives brought me a deep sense of fulfilment.
And here we are. I would love to have a conversation with you if you think there is a journey we could go on together to help you find what you are looking for.
Thank you for reading and I will end off with one of my favourite phrases which is an Irish blessing for travellers:
May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
the rains fall soft upon your fields,
and until we meet again,
may God hold you in the palm of His hand.
